Preserved flowers transportation VS fresh flowers
The transport of fresh and preserved flowers differs greatly, particularly due to the fragility and lifespan of freshly cut flowers. 435 miles is the average journey of a fresh rose from Kenya. It should be noted that 4 out of 10 fresh flowers found in the Occident come from other continents. This massive importation requires a lot of resources to get the flowers on time and in good condition. We share their journey with you in this article.
The energy-consuming transport of fresh flowers.
As soon as the flowers are cut, it’s a race against time. They are flown in by refrigerated plane in a hurry to try to keep them as fresh as possible. Once the stems have landed, they are transported in refrigerated trucks to their wholesaler. They are stored in cold rooms and the conditions in which they are kept will not change once they reach the florist: a cold room. All these transport conditions generate a great deal of greenhouse gas emissions, whereas the preserved flower does not require any special treatment.

The ships that transport it are neither refrigerated nor heated, and sail at their own pace from one continent to another. This means of transport greatly reduces carbon dioxide emissions, and no additional resources are required to store the preserved flower. It arrives at its destination fresh and relaxed, as beautiful as in the spring dew.
